Study Group on BERDE for Residential Development Conducted

A Study Group on BERDE for Residential Development was conducted last November 9, 2012, 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the PHILGBC National Secretariat Office, NET One Center, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City. The discussion is part of a series conducted by the PHILGBC under the Philippine Energy Efficiency Project - Efficient Building Initiative (PEEP) to gather comments, clarify issues, and solicit suggestions for improvement from affiliated professionals, members, and pilot project owners and developers to facilitate the development of the BERDE Green Building Rating Scheme for Residential Developments.

Residential clusters and vertical residential buildings are the targets of BERDE for Residential Development, a rating scheme under the Building for Ecologically Responsive Design Excellence (BERDE) Program that evaluates the environmental effects and impacts of human habitation units. It also aims to promote the sustainable design and construction of these developments.

The study group was participated in by representatives from Arthaland Corporation, Mañosa and Co., National Housing Authority (NHA), Subdivision & Housing Developers Association, Inc., Forssman Pacific Corporation, and Mañosa Properties Inc. Mr. John Paul de Jesus of Arthaland Corporation and Mr. Angelo Mañosa of Mañosa and Co. shared their input and recommendations based on their initial implementation and evaluation of the BERDE green building rating scheme for New Construction on Arya Residences and Ylang Lane. Both presentors discussed the aspects where the BERDE green building rating scheme was applied, and provided suggestions based on their experiences and evaluations. The points discussed included the practicability of implementation, change in point allocation, criteria and point consideration, and the use of indigenous materials such as bamboo for medium rise developments.

Mañosa Properties is the pilot project owner committed for residential cluster development, and the Arya Residences is the pilot project committed for vertical residential buildings, both under BERDE for Residential Development.

BERDE is the Philippines' National Voluntary Green Building Rating System adopted by the DOE under PEEP-EBI, and version 1.1.0 of the BERDE Green Building Rating Schemes for New Construction and Existing Buildings are being developed in partnership.
