Planning and Designing Green Buildings

QUEZON CITY, Philippines — 29 June 2015 — Ecotektonika, Inc., founding member of the Philippine Green Building Council (PHILGBC), shared their expertise during the Information Session on Green Building and Sustainable Consumption on 26 June 2015 in the city government of Quezon City attended by government officials from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Education (DepEd), city government of QC, developers, contractors and suppliers.

Mr. Gabriel Ma. Angelo B. Cascante, a Certified BERDE Professional and Board Director and Project Manager of Ecotektonika, discussed PLANNING AND DESIGNING GREEN BUILDINGS.  Arch. Cascante shared that in planning green buildings two new factors must be deliberately considered in the decision making process: human health, safety and comfort, and ecology. “There is a need for designers to become equally familiar with the effect their decisions have on the environment and the human health,” he added. He also highlighted the importance of an integrated design process where the green building team goes through each of the design phases together detecting any errors and eliminating revisions during construction.

Arch. Cascante shared the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LDDA) Building as an example of an ecologically sustainable design project. The LLDA office is the 1st Green Government Building using the BERDE Green Building Rating System. It showcases green building practices in the government sector and is a catalyst for other government agencies to follow.

The LLDA building is currently undergoing BERDE Assessment and Certification under the BERDE for New Construction: Commercial Buildings version 1.1.0 (BERDE-NC-COM v.1.1.0).

The Information Session is a pre-event to the Kalisakan GP3 Conference and Expo to be held from July 23-25, 2015 at the SMX Aura Convention Center. The PHILGBC is a convener of the said conference and is leading the track on Green Building and Sustainable Consumption on July 25.
