DOE and PHILGBC invite project developers for BERDE Assessment and Certification

TAGUIG, Philippines. – December 19, 2012 – The Department of Energy (DOE) and the Philippine Green Building Council (PHILGBC) invite project developers to register and undergo the BERDE Assessment and Certification and be publicly recognized under the Philippine Energy Efficiency Project: Efficient Building Initiative (PEEP-EBI).

The Republic of the Philippines, through the DOE, initiated the Philippine Energy Efficiency Project (PEEP) to demonstrate the societal benefits of implementing a series of energy efficiency (EE) projects in the commercial, residential and public sectors. The project is implemented with financial support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The Efficient Building Initiative, a subcomponent of PEEP, aims to accelerate the implementation of a green building rating system by streamlining existing green building initiatives in the property sector. For this subcomponent, the DOE recognizes the BERDE Green Building Rating System developed by the PHILGBC under the BERDE Program as the National Voluntary Green Building Rating System.

BERDE Assessment and Certification is conducted by a third-party certification body (CB) accredited by PHILGBC and the Philippine Accreditation Office (PAO). The CB shall undertake the BERDE Assessment activities, such as documentation review, assessment and assessment reporting, and will appoint a panel to independently conduct the review of the Assessment Report and be responsible for the grant of the BERDE Certification.

Selected project developers will sign a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the PHILGBC and the DOE to formalize the commitment to undergo BERDE Certification under the PEEP-EBI. Successful projects will be publicly recognized by the DOE and the PHILGBC as BERDE-certified green buildings under the PEEP-EBI.

Contact the BERDE National Secretariat for a copy of the Request for Expression of Interest for the BERDE Assessment and Certification. For more information on the PEEP-EBI and the BERDE Program, contact the Philippine Green Building Council, the PEEP-EBI Implementing Agency.
